VENI, SEDI, VIDI
(/ɡʊd bloʊk/) Noun | Verb
n. A person of integrity, resilience, compassion and dependability; one whose character is illustrated by the principled way they choose to live and the subsequent positive impact they have on those around them.
E.g. "Have you met Matty yet? He's a really good bloke"
v. To engage in the act of betterment; the conscious decision to prioritise the growth, stability, and contentment of one's self not just for the sake of one's self, but for the benefit of their entire sphere of influence.
E.g. "I think I need to just good bloke my way through it"
The name of our clinic is aspirational - there are few titles we hold in higher regard than being considered a 'good bloke'. But for us, it is a working title. We want to be good blokes and help blokes become good.
We want to give blokes who don't take themselves too seriously a space to come and talk about serious things. We can't do the work for you - but we will do it with you. We want to be the Sam to your Frodo - the Chewie to your Han - the Goose to your Maverick. Because nobody will be worse off by you doing better. When you're one of our clients, we want you to feel at home.
To that end, we are a 'non-clinical' clinic. A GoodBlokes psychologist is not interested in projecting a sanitised or pretentious image. For us, real growth and personal development goes deeper than the aesthetic.
We will talk to you like a human because we like talking to humans. That might make us a bit rough around the edges. Ah well. You can't be good at everything.
It's a common misconception that to be considered a 'good bloke' you need to be a man. We see it differently. To us, it doesn't matter what gender you are, nor what reproductive equipment you've got. If you aspire towards a life of intentionality, peace and meaning - regardless of your gender or background - you are welcome with us.
However, we also recognise that there is a gender disparity in terms of mental health access. Men tend to be exponentially less likely to seek out support. We believe that there are lots of reasons for this, including traditional gender norms around strength and weakness, and a heap of societal stigma around the meaning of masculinity. We don't think that masculinity needs redefinition. But we know that men need support, regardless.
If you're a human aged 8 or older and you're interested in having a yarn, we'd love to hear from you.
Nope.
