Appointments at GoodBlokes Psychology are usually 50 minutes in duration, and clients are advised of costs prior to sessions commencing. At this stage, GoodBlokes Psychology is accepting private clients (self-referred) or with a Medicare 'Better Access' Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from a GP or psychiatrist referral. If you have private health insurance, you may receive a rebate from your health fund (depending on your level of cover) - however Medicare rebates cannot be combined with private health fund rebates.

At present, we are unable to provide service for clients who wish to attend under alternate funding pathways (e.g. WorkCover, ADF Bupa, DVA, QPS SelfRefer). We are working on opening up these pathways in future. Stay tuned!
Medicare rebates are set by the Commonwealth Government and are subject to change annually.
GoodBlokes Psychology will revise session fees annually towards the EOFY.
Occasionally, clients will request additional documentation to support claims or applications (e.g. for grants, pensions, NDIS funding, occupational needs, school or university purposes). While we are not an assessment oriented service, we can assist with some of these requests on a case-by-case basis. Fees for these services are pro-rated for time spent completing the additional request, e.g. a letter of support with clinical data may take e.g. 45 minutes to complete and this would be billed at 0.75x a regular session fee. Please note: letters to support extensions for academic deadlines can only be provided if requested during or immediately after an appointment, as it is a requirement that you be reviewed by a psychologist before these letters can be generated.
From time to time, clients may request that a psychologist consults with other health professionals or stakeholders (e.g. psychiatrists, support workers, school support staff or teachers). As this is often best-practice, brief contact with external stakeholders does not attract any additional fee. Ongoing or lengthier contact would be pro-rated based on duration of contact.
GoodBlokes Psychology is not a forensic psychology service, and thus we will usually be unable to provide reports for legal or court purposes. However, we are happy to chat to you about your needs in this space.
If you become aware that you will be unable to attend a scheduled appointment time, please let us know as soon as possible. There is no cancellation fee for appointments cancelled at least 24 hours prior to a scheduled appointment time. Missed appointments or late cancellations within 24 hours of a scheduled appointment will be billed at the full session fee. We require a day's notice to give us time to re-book the appointment and offer this to other clients on the waiting list.
We are always happy to accommodate you via telehealth (secure Zoom link or phone if preferred) if physically getting to us becomes tricky for you.
What do I need to do in order to access the rebate from Medicare?
Prior to your first appointment, please provide us with a scanned copy of your MHTP from your general practitioner. You can provide this on the day of your initial appointment, however this may delay the processing of your Medicare rebate.
How many sessions can I claim on Medicare?
You can claim up to ten clinical psychology appointments under Medicare in a calendar year (January - December). GPs or psychiatrists can refer you with a MHTP for an initial six appointments, and following a GP review, an additional four sessions at their discretion.
What happens if I do not use all ten? Do they roll over?
Yes and no. Unused sessions can be used in the following calendar year, however these will count towards your limit (ten) for the new calendar year.
Can I attend an appointment on behalf of my child using their MHTP?
Yes, you can utilise up to two of the maximum ten annual sessions without your child physically present.
How do I pay?
For initial appointments, we ask that you complete electronic payment prior to the appointment, or provide us with payment details for us to take payment immediately after session. For subsequent sessions, you can pay electronically for appointments either before or after your session time. Payment details will be sent as part of your client agreement and consent form process.
Can I switch to a remote / video appointment via telehealth if I cannot attend in-person?
Yes. If for whatever reason you cannot make it to us in-person, we can switch your appointment to telehealth via Zoom and forward you a secure link to access our service.
